My Fixer Upper Home

My Fixer Upper Home

When my husband and I were searching for homes we decided that we were going to have to buy a fixer upper. We wanted a home with a big yard and enough square footage to grow into, but with the soaring home prices we were no longer able to purchase what we thought we deserved. We had enough money to put 20% down on a $230,000 home, but we didn't have the monthly income to even come close to purchasing something like that.  We looked at several different homes, but none of them seemed right. One of them we loved and we even put $15,000 over the asking price and we were still out-bid. We finally found THIS home. And we LOVED the square footage and the yard. We knew it was a fixer upper, but we could do it, right? WOW! The moment I turned my husband and said, "could you see our family growing up in here?" and him saying, "yes" will echo in my brain forever.

Now, that we are in the process of selling I don't regret for a moment buying this home. We bought the home for $185,000 and we are selling for a lot more than that (not going to divulge the sell price until after the sell is final). But let us just say that we are making MUCH more than what we purchased the home fore. And there are three reasons for that; 1. We bought the home for a short sale and we purchased the home about $20,000 less than it's appraised value. 2. The housing market has sky rocketed in the last two years and 3. We have put in a lot of money and A LOT of hard work into this home!!!!

This home often felt like we had bit WAY more than we could chew and there were lots of times that I choked. I have put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into this home. I have lost many hours of sleep contemplating how to handle certain issues and what our next step will be. I began freelance writing to help pay for the projects that had to get done.

We never knew how hard it was to fix up a home. We had NO idea how much money things actually cost and how long they actually take doing. We would budget $50 for a project and find ourselves spending $150. When we would start a project we would come across MORE issues than we started and we would have to fix THOSE issues before starting the project we actually were planning on doing.

It has been a little over 2 years since we first moved into this home and I am happy and excited to be FINALLY writing this post. The post that shows you to EVERY single room in our home and it will show you the before and after pictures! :) So, please enjoy our Fixer Upper Tour

31 Weeks! My Pregnancy So Far!

My Pregnancy So Far… Today I am 31 weeks and this has been the longest pregnancy ever! Through this pregnancy, I have learned a lot about myself, my husband and my family. I have learned that I really DO need help from others and that I can’t do this myself. I realized that it sometimes takes a village just to get through a pregnancy and I learned how amazing my husband is (I mean...I already knew..but he showed me he was cooler than I ever thought). There were many times through this pregnancy that I just REALLY needed help. I REALLY need somebody to come over to just keep the kids alive. I REALLY needed somebody to come and bring my family a meal. My parents sacrificed so much during this pregnancy. They have taken many days off, left work early, had late nights, and have even spent some of their time hanging out in the hospital. During this experience, I figured out who my family could really rely on and who would actually step-up and help my

Front Room of our Fixer Upper

When we bought our home 2 1/2 years ago we knew that we had a lot of things that we needed to do to make it into a home. I WISH I would have known how much I would have to accomplish, because then I probably wouldn't have bought this home. It was just TOO MUCH WORK! But, all of the work will certainly pay off once we sell. The front room had an awkward book shelf right when you walked in that was attached to the ceiling with 60's spindles. Whoever the person was to convince people that spindles would look good has a true gift! I knew that the spindles just had to go. So I ripped away the spindles and the book shelf. I wasn't planning on ripping up the carpet, but my son somehow opened up the wood stain and spilled it all over himself and the carpet! So I ripped up the carpet and found myself staring at BEAUTIFUL original hardwood floor that didn't need any work done. I did, however, have to go around the entire room and pill up nails and wood that was holding
